"In the bowels of a ship, drifting across an endless ocean that has submerged the world, four men pass the time before they waste away, thinking of better days. Their claustrophobic world is one of violence and passion, guilt and nostalgia. With nothing to hang onto but memories from when they ruled the planet, they survive on false realities and dreamt-up utopias. They were once the elite of society- white, rich, educated, straight, Christian, men- not subjected to discrimination by anyone. Especially after they exterminated them all…"
We developed LIBERATE YOURSELF FROM MY VICE-LIKE GRIP!!! throughout 2011 as part of the Next Wave Kickstart program, and we're extremely excited to be presenting it as part of the 2012 Next Wave Festival. This is our most ambitious project yet, and will be the culmination of 18 months development and rehearsal.
We are making this project to explore notions of power, control, and masculinity in contemporary society; including topics such as global wealth distribution and the fragility of our planets environment. We believe this will be our best work yet, and can't wait to share it with you in May - but we need your help...
How you can help:
To realise this project we’re hoping to raise $5,000 through a Pozible campaign to help cover the cost of:
- Set and lighting materials to transform our theatre space into a visually rich environment.
- Advertising the show, to share this exciting work with as many people as possible.
- Paying for our venue, so that we can create and perform the work in-situ, giving us an organic creative process.
- Paying the artists involved for their time.
This is your chance to help us create this exciting new work. By
chipping in whatever you can afford, you'll be supporting the creation of a
brand new piece of theatre being presented in one of Australia’s leading festivals of
experimental work. And in exchange for your kind donation, you'll receive a
gift. The more you chip in, the more exciting the present. Check out our
Pozible campaign wall to see what gifts are up for grabs.
And if you can help spread the word about our pozible campaign to friends and family who might be interested in supporting the project, we’d be extremely grateful.
Unless we reach our target of $5000 we get nothing, so please help out any way you can; and the higher we go over our target the more ambitious we can be with the work.
The project will be presented in May 2012 as part of the 2012 Next Wave Festival in Melbourne.
Next Wave Festival will take place from May 19-27, 2012.
