aMoment Drop #6

Project Description

Sometimes it's good for life to stop.
Smell the forget-me-nots and all that...

You might not notice it.
In fact, you probably won’t.

But.
Amidst the grey business of the city, there is aMoment for you.

A little space:
to escape
to ponder
to rest
to stop
to have aMoment to yourself.

Drop #6
aMoment’s biggest project yet is a cubby for people to enter.
Built on the back of a trailer, this poetic world will be parked in the nooks and crannies of the Melbourne CBD in April 2011.

It’s a caravan/nest/cubby/cloud/bird.
A sculpture. An installation. An absurdity in the city.

aMoment is collaborating with artist Kathy Holowko, a sculpture artist who works with recycled wood. She is building a cubby/bird house/hut a-top of a trailer.

Inside, will be a collection of aMoment’s wanderings through the city. Like a bower bird, she is attracted to the little things in life and has brought them back to her nest. This will echo a white nest or cloud. She will be present at the installation, inviting people to enter for “a moment”..

Beautiful and whimsical, this project will provide the delight and interruption to daily life that all aMoment’s projects have successfully created so far.

Previous Drops
The best place to find out about our previous drops is at www.amoment.com.au

We have placed over 500 aMoments in city streets. These have been teacups with forget-me-nots or rosemary planted, little hammocks and empty gold picture frames to hang in the city. Each has a little tag that says “please take aMoment”, a little poem and the website address.

What people have said:
“What a wonderful idea. Our office whent on an early scavenger hunt…#52 happily resides high in the 200Q sky, with a beautiful view of our fair city.”

“I saw a little tea cup.
From where did it roam?
I thought our boardroom table
Would be a better home!
For people now to stop and smile
Instead of not slow down and groan.
Thankyou to the mystery giver
We appreciate the loan.”

“This is why I love Melbourne, this is why I love to work and play in the city.”

There are currently over 100 comments on our blog from people who have found aMoments. Please have a look at www.amoment.com.au

We have so far made 500 aMoments, that now exist in people’s homes, offices and businesses. This has had a ripple effect online with over 17,000 hits on the associated blog. This has been assisted by the following it has garnered from individual bloggers and being featured in Frankie, Three Thousand, Flow (the Netherlands) and several blogs.

How you can help.
We are asking for donations to build this space. We have received some support from the City of Melbourne, but we require a further $3,000. The project will have a long life span, as once it is made it will be able to exist in various locations in Melbourne and potentially Australia too.

Apart from a wonderful Awesome Foundation Grant, aMoment has been an entirely self-funded project. We want aMoment to grow and reach more people. Your investment in this project will reach many, many people.

Melbourne
aMoment started on Monday 26 July 2010 with 100 teacups planted with forget-me-nots. These "aMoments" were placed along Flinders Lane in the wee hours of the morning for city workers to find during a bout of Mondayitis.

Since then, 5 other drops have occurred in Melbourne and Perth.

aMoment reminds people that sometimes it's good for life to stop.
Sometimes life puts blinkers on you. Don't let it.
