Who are we?

Us Folk is a new independent magazine providing a platform for young and emerging artists, photographers, designers, writers and performers from Canberra and the surrounding region to gain exposure and have their work published. Us Folk will feature a bunch of fun, quirky and inspiring content including stories, art, comics, photography, fashion, interviews, recipes, DIY tutorials and more.

Canberra has a bad reputation for being boring, but we know that’s not true. There are lots of young people in this city who are making Canberra a fun an exciting place to be, and Us Folk want to share their stories.We have already received many contributions, and are looking forward to publishing work by home grown talent.

We need your help!

Us Folk magazine is an independent project which is being coordinated by two very enthusiastic young folk on a very limited budget. We are creating this magazine for our love of photography and design, and because we get excited by the idea of producing an inspiring creative publication for young Canberrans. We are endeavouring to create Us Folk as a high quality piece of design in itself, paying high attention to the layout and content, and using environmentally friendly stock.

We would like to raise $1000 to publish Issue 1 of Us Folk. This funding will mainly contribute to the cost of printing (about $800). The rest will help us cover the cost of promoting the magazine, and hosting our launch party.

And if the generosity of your heart isn’t enough, we have an exciting range of rewards that you will receive for supporting us, including free copies of Issue 1, original artwork and accessories by Juliette Dudley Design, and a professional photography session with Ash Peak Photography.
