Project Double Up
Project Description
Project Double Up is a creative video and photography travel documentary project that will see Derrick Tin and David Reid, both Emergency Room Medical doctors, journey through central Asia for 3 months in late 2012/ early 2013.
We plan on travelling across Mongolia, China, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan by train and bus, visiting community medical clinics and hoping to gain a deeper understanding into the health and medical hurdles the locals face.
We will also be volunteering our time and medical knowledge to help out, in whatever way we can, and hope, through our documentary, to raise awareness back at home and hopefully make a small difference to the lives of others in the long run.
We will be backpacking with basic medical supplies in case we come across people in need that have little to no access to medical care but aim predominantly to help out established local community clinics.
We will be documenting our travels through HD camcorders and will be bringing our digital SLRs on this mixed media, video and photography travel documentary project.

We are hoping to raise enough funds to cover the local transport and accommodation costs (which shouldn't be too expensive), as well as basic medical kits we will be travelling with. Any extra funds will go towards the processing and printing of our photography/ videos and we're hoping to set up a week long exhibition/ gallery of our project when we return.
Our itinerary and length of travel is also somewhat dependent on how much we raise so we appreciate any pledges and donations made by you today!

Why Project Double Up:
"Double up" is a surf terminology that describes two waves joining up to form an extra powerful one with twice the energy, often creating a wave to get barrelled or tubed in.
Derrick and Dave met through work in Sydney in 2008 and quickly became good friends, sharing a passion for surf, travel, photography and videography. They consolidated their friendship through their travels and surf trips and their constant desire to explore and discover led them to come up with a project that will incorporate their passions, as well as give something back to the people and their local communities. This was how Project Double Up was born.
The Itinerary:
Our plan is to travel across Asia over a 3 month period, predominantly by rail. Our exact itinerary is still in the early planning stages and largely dependant on our funds, access to rail routes and visa application processes. We aim to start in China and head across through to Mongolia as a priority part of the trip.
