Format Festival
Project Description
Format Festival is a 2 week long, award winning, artist-run festival that celebrates and explores the creative community, showcasing visual, urban and experimental art, as well as zines, live music, craft, activism, performance and discussion.
Format Festival has won Best of the Adelaide Fringe 2010 (exhibition by an arts collective) and the ArtsSA 'Ruby Award' for Arts Enterprise. It is an integral part of the Adelaide festival landscape - being dubbed "the fringe of the Fringe", and South Australia's equivalent to Victoria's Next Wave Festival or This Is Not Art in New South Wales.
The Festival has run for three years, after starting life as a weekend Zine & DIY Fair as part of the Adelaide Fringe Festival. It is organised and staged by the Format Collective, a hard-working group of artists and writers who are well acquainted with arts and city council grant applications as they are the key to the group's survival.
However, when Festival time is over, Format remains. Throughout the rest of the year, the collective organise and host events in their art space to pay the rent. The space provides a venue for emerging artists and musicians, as well as a permanent zine and indie book shop, one of few in the world. Donations through Pozible will help maintain the space, and assure the collective's future in bringing more festivities in years to come.
