Firstly, thank you for even contemplating to help make this project come to life.
I am Nick Kelly, an aspiring filmmaker based in Newcastle, NSW. My background is very independent in nature. I have completed independent TVC's, independent music videos, and independent corporate & web media, and have a real passion for making independent drama, in the form of short films. I have had my short films screened both here in Australia and in the US, and I am looking to create a 10 minute short film that YOU would be interested in watching!
Hands up if you have every watched a short film? Not many people could answer 'yes', but short films are a great way of creating something exciting, energetic, and engaging, something that stands out amongst the millions of videos on the web consisting of cat assassins and home video pratfalls (if you do have a funny video of a cat assassin however, please send my way). It is a chance to really be involved in something that will outlast us all, that people from here in Newcastle, over to Rio De Janeiro can watch and think 'Wow!'.
Hands up if you would like to be a part of that? I thought so! 'My Roommate Is A Serial Killer' tells the story of a yet to be named character (see rewards opposite for details), who has the unfortunate combination of suffering from mental illness, as well as living with a man hellbent on spilling blood. The two are convinced that an impending natural disaster will kill millions of people...unless a few are sacrificed to save many. If you would like to join our 'heroes' on a bizarre, twisted, and humorous journey to save mankind, then please give as much as you can to help make this project a reality.
The amount I wish to raise is $600. The money I raise via Pozible will go to one part of the project's cost. Film equipment rental for the shoot day. I aim to film over a period of two days (most likely a yet to be determined weekend), and film equipment will be the biggest cost, but a great way to make a professional looking film. Quite simply, for every $1 you donate to the project, you make 1 second of this film possible. As you will see, every reward amount comes with it's own unique xx second part of the film, dependent on how much you pledge. If you donated via the $10 reward option, then you would receive a 10 second portion of the film, that no-one else will get to see until the film is released! You would be able to point out to your friends and family, and say, I made that part possible! (If the project goal is raised, then any further donations over our goal would not receive their unique portion of the film).
Please, I ask that you do two things. Consider donating to help the next production of a very energetic, very original, very humble filmmaker (a donation will not be taken unless the entire amount is raised) and after doing so, whether you donate or not, please share this with as many friends/family/colleagues that you can.

Why Filmmaking?
I’ve always been captivated by film. I just loved the ability to escape my sometimes boring, sometimes unexpected, but almost always grounded childhood through watching a movie. To get lost in a realm other than the one your used to, to follow the most endearing or the most vile characters imaginable as they battle one another for domination of your heart. To me, that’s what film is all about.
Whilst having enjoyed films/movies more than the next person for all of my life, it is only within the last few years that I have attempted to do anything about it. I write/direct (short films only at this stage) to challenge myself, to develop myself, and to captivate the audience for whom my work is intended.
Why Newcastle, Australia?
I have been in Australia for a few years now, following my family after they emigrated many moons ago.
I originally began writing short stories/film scripts & enrolled in a local film studies course at TAFE (college) to meet other like minded, creative people. Since then, I have written/directed/produced a small number of short films, each better than the last.
I have remained in Newcastle, simply because I have a great group of creative people around me to help me make my short films…until YOU came in, of course!
Why Should I Give You My Money?
Part of my development as a filmmaker is to make bigger and better projects every time. To do this, I need more funds than I have immediately available. I want to make films that you want to see. Films that can make you laugh, cry, cringe, possibly even faint at…maybe that could be reason enough to help make a film. OUR film.
What Experience Do You Have?
Over the last few years I have dabbled in commercials, promo vids & short films. As a writer, I have had short film scripts in finalist rounds of international screenwriting competitions. As a filmmaker, I have had work screened at festivals in Australia and the US.
