Support Senses

Project Description

Since its inception in 1999 with a declared devotion to the serious and eclectic discussion of cinema, Senses of Cinema has become the most visited and highly regarded online film journal in the world.  Rich with reading matter for critics, writers, filmmakers, students, academics and dedicated cinephiles, each issue brings a fresh selection of feature articles, festival reports, book reviews and accompanying special dossiers. Ongoing additions to the Great Directors database and the 58 issue strong archive highlight Senses’ position as an invaluable film resource. Senses of Cinema also publishes Annotations on Film to accompany screenings at the Melbourne Cinémathèque.

With diminishing government funding available for ventures such as Senses, we are forced to look elsewhere for income sources to continue to exist in the way we have.  It has been a guiding principle for Senses to be accessible to everyone and there has never been any charge for subscription. This is something that Senses aims to maintain for at least the next 12 months.

To this end Senses is seeking financial support from the wider local and international film community to help cover our operating costs.  The funds raised will pay for administering and maintaining our site.  Senses will continue to accept and commission the high quality writing on film that our readers have come to expect.

We have set our target at $15,000, although we’d feel much more secure if we can raise much more than that.

We’ve worked out a number of levels of support suitable for all pocket depths and, with thanks to the generosity of various film organisations and companies, we’ve have added a few gifts in appreciation for your contributions.

Click on the play button on the image, above, and you won't get a clip from HIS GIRL FRIDAY, but you will get testimonials from some of our supporters including writer and academic, Murray Pomerance, writer, Christos Tsiolkas and filmmaker, Robert Connolly.

Established in 1999 and devoted to the serious and eclectic discussion of cinema, Melbourne‐based online film journal, Senses of Cinema is Australia’s most accessible and widely read film publication. Senses of Cinema’s readers and contributors comprise local and international film academics, students, critics, writers and buffs. Senses is regularly cited in international publications, from “online cinema” site, MUBI to The New York Times. The UK publication “Time Out Film Guide 2011” lists Senses of Cinema as the No.1 online film journal. Senses of Cinema Inc is a not-for profit organisation whose sole purpose is to publish Senses of Cinema.
